Houston man has lived in his front yard for six months after wife kicked him out

PictureMany husbands know the feeling of being in put into the doghouse by their wives. However, one married man has found himself in the front lawn of his million-dollar home for the last six months. Sharafat Khan, co-owner of a Lakeview, Texas mansion has been living in the front yard since March after his wife kicked him out and changed the locks on their house.

What the argument was about remains unknown but the 69-year-old has had a criminal history involving domestic violence. Police say they have been called over to the 1.3 million dollar home over 30 times for disturbances.

Police stated that since the 69-year-old man is the co-owner of the home, he has the right to remain in his front yard. Authorities also said that they cannot force Khan’s wife, Dr. Shahnaz Khan, to let him back inside.

Detective Tim Dohr of the Lakeview Police Department told the Houston Chronicle,
“They’re married so it’s community property. One has just as much right as the other to be there. We can’t make him leave, which is her wish, and we can’t really force her to do anything with regard to him.”Picture Local media outlets have reported that Khan sleeps on the front porch wrapped in a white sheet at night and seeks shade in the yard during the day.

The 69-year-old’s health is also a major concern. Khan claims to be a diabetic and his neighbors are afraid he might die in the front yard.

Neighbor Debbie Scoggins who lives across the street told KPRC
“He’s very frail, he can’t even walk. I’m afraid he is going to die out here in his yard.”

Khan’s wife, a physician, has shown no sympathy for her husband during the 6-month-long argument. She posted a sign in the front yard telling their neighbors not to feed him.

The sign outside their home reads,
“If you want to feed him, take him to your house,” the sign says. “If you want to, you can keep him at your house. Thanks for your sympathy, but do not bring anything on this property,”

Despite the sign, his neighbors know that has no access to money, food or clothes, so they bring him care packages when needed.

By now, most are probably wondering why the two have not filed for a divorce. Khan doesn’t have access to the money, so he cannot initiate the process. Khan’s wife says she refuses to file for religious reasons.

Khan believes the split is all about money. He said,
“She doesn’t want to hand over half her fortune.”Picture
