Obama chows down on a half-eaten piece of salmon in the wilderness with survivalist Bear Grylls

PictureObama ‘enjoys’ a half-eaten piece of salmon in the wilderness with survivalist Bear GryllsPresident Barack Obama munched on a piece of left over salmon from an Alaskan bear, during a television shoot last week with British survivalist and outdoor adventurer Bear Grylls. The episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls was shot during Obama’s three-day visit to Alaska’s Kenai Fjords National Park to bring awareness to the impacts that climate change is having on the park’s glaciers.

Obama had said he was prepared for a trek through the park with Grylls, but not entirely prepared for what exactly they would be having for lunch.

“I’ve seen some of the stuff Bear eats, and it’s gotta be something that doesn’t still have its legs and eyes on it. I want it not to be too recognizable,” Obama said.

“Bear’s a mediocre cook, but the fact that we ate something recognizable was encouraging,” Obama said. “Now, the fact that he told me this was a leftover fish from a bear, I don’t know if that was necessary. He could have just left that out.”
Grylls had made several suggestions for the show that was filmed last week but The White House admits that many of the ideas were reconstructed by the Secret Service.

“As president, I am in what’s called the bubble, and Secret Service makes sure that I’m always out of danger, which I very much appreciate, but it can be a little confining,” he said. “Every once in a while, if I do something unexpected, the phrase we use is that, ‘The bear is loose,’ so to be with Bear in the woods, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Obama’s guest appearance in the show Running Wild with Bear Grylls is expected to air later this year.
