Regal Cinemas announces bag checking policy before admission due to recent shootings

PictureA national movie theater chain is taking a much closer look at what people are bringing inside after several shootings at movie theaters recently.
The Regal Entertainment Group announced that they will inspect all moviegoer bags before admission into their theaters. Regal is the first national cinema chain announcing backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection before being allowed inside.

The Knoxville-based company discussed their concerns and new policy on
their website,

Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America. Regal Entertainment Group wants our customers and staff to feel comfortable and safe when visiting or working in our theatres. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection prior to admission. We acknowledge that this procedure can cause some inconvenience and that it is not without flaws, but hope these are minor in comparison to increased safety.”

Regal Cinemas admits the policy is an inconvenience, but hopes the security measures will provide increased safety.

Social media’s reaction to the announcement believe this is the company’s excuse to regulate the snacks many moviegoers bring into theaters to avoid the incredibly expensive concession prices.
If this new policy becomes widely adopted by other movie chains, it will definitely be interesting to see the new ways moviegoers smuggle their snacks inside.
