A student choir from Public School 22 in Staten Island, New York gave their teacher an incredible gift before their summer break. The group of students sang Martina McBride’s ‘I’m Gonna Love You Through It’ for their teacher, Mrs. Lopez, who is battling breast cancer. The song is about loving someone through illness and was the perfect selection to let their teacher know she is not alone during this difficult time in her life.On the second to last day of school this year, Adriana Lopez was called into the auditorium for a surprise but had no idea that the student choir had prepared a song to sing for her. During the song, Lopez obviously became emotional and moved to tears but thankful of the uplifting support the kids had given her. At the end of the video she says, “It’s not easy, but I will get through it because I have wonderful friends in this school.”
Adriana Lopez, the fourth grade teacher at PS 22, had a tumor removed shortly after she was diagnosed, but later found out the cancer had spread. She began chemotherapy and recently finished her sixth of eight treatments. After she finishes her eighth treatment, she will begin radiation treatment for a total of 35 days next school year that she plans to do after school.
