Since its arrival, KC Streetcar #801 has gone through a series of systems integration tests including clearance checks on the entire route and a power and systems test within the Singleton Yard Vehicle Maintenance Facility and the non-revenue track.
Thursday's test of the streetcar checked how well the vehicle performs at various speeds as it traveled around corners and approached platforms. Officials urged interested bystanders to keep a safe distance from the vehicle and crews while the tests were being performed. Cars that were parked in conflicting spots that interfered with the streetcar's tests this morning were towed away.
Streetcar #801 is the first of four vehicles that will transport people through the $100 million starter route in downtown Kansas City. If everything goes as planned, the streetcar should be ready to go in March just in time for the Big 12 tournament at the Sprint Center.
